How We Test

Our testing method is thorough and consistent. We use the same criteria across all tests.

Each machine or product is tested for a minimum of 3 weeks under normal conditions.

  1. Research and selection

We select the most relevant products based on popularity, price and features. We read existing reviews and user comments.

  2. Purchase and unboxing

We purchase all products ourselves through normal retail channels. No sponsored products. We document the packaging, manual and first impressions.

  3. Initial setup

We measure how long it takes to set up. We follow manufacturer instructions. We note any problems or confusion.

  4. Daily use for 3 weeks

We use the product daily as a regular consumer would. For machines we brew a minimum of 2 cups per day. We test with different beans and settings.

  5. Measurable tests

We measure temperature stability, brew time, noise level and energy consumption. For coffee grinders we measure consistency with sieve analysis. For espresso we measure extraction yield.

  6. Comparison

We compare directly with competitors in the same price range. We identify strengths and weaknesses relative to alternatives.

  7. Evaluation and scoring

We score on brew quality, ease of use, design, price/value and durability. Our scoring is relative to the price.

Our Scoring Criteria

We score all products on the same 5 criteria. Each category accounts for 20% of the total score.

20% Brew Quality
20% Ease of Use
20% Design & Build
20% Price/Value
20% Durability

What do the criteria mean?

  • Brew Quality: Taste, temperature, consistency, extraction. This is the most important factor.
  • Ease of Use: How easy is it to use? Intuitive design? Good manual?
  • Design & Build: Materials, craftsmanship, aesthetics. Does it feel premium?
  • Price/Value: Is the price reasonable relative to features and quality? Scoring is relative to the price range.
  • Durability: Quality of components. Manufacturer warranty. Expected lifespan.

Buy Freshly Roasted Coffee Beans

We don't just test equipment. We also sell Denmark's best specialty coffee beans. Roasted to order in Copenhagen.

Are your reviews independent?

Yes. We purchase all the products we test ourselves. We receive no payment from brands for positive reviews. Our only income comes from sales of our own coffee beans and any affiliate links, which are always clearly marked.

How long do you test each product?

We test each coffee machine or product for a minimum of 3 weeks in daily use. For coffee beans we test the entire bag and compare with at least 3 other beans in the same category.

How do you score products?

We use 5 criteria that each count for 20%: brew quality, ease of use, design and build quality, price/value, and durability. The total score is out of 10 points.

Do you update your reviews?

Yes. We review and update all reviews at least once a year. When new models are launched we add them to the test. The date of the latest update is at the top of each review.

Can I trust your recommendations?

We only recommend products we would use or buy ourselves. We are honest about both advantages and disadvantages. If a product does not live up to expectations we say so.

Do you test cheap products too?

Yes. We test across all price ranges. We score relative to the price - a cheap product can score high if it delivers good value for money.
